OUR STORY

I Built This Because I Was You.

I’m a social worker. Or I was, until the weight of it caught up with me — and I took a wellbeing break to figure out how to come back to myself.

What helped me most wasn’t a program or a protocol. It was soil under my fingernails. Moss between my palms. A garden that needed nothing from me except to be tended.

Jungle Curator grew out of that season of recovery — and out of the quiet certainty that other caring professionals deserve to feel what I felt: a home that finally gives something back.

THE STORY BEHIND THE BUSINESS

Burnout Taught Me Something I Couldn’t Learn Any Other Way.

As a social worker, I spent years pouring my energy into others, often at the quiet expense of myself. When I finally hit a wall, the “wellbeing break” I took wasn’t a choice—it was a necessity. In that stillness, I found myself doing the one thing I hadn’t made time for in years: putting my hands in the soil.

There was something about tending a living thing — one that didn’t need my empathy, just my attention

Whether I was crafting kokedamas or designing a small kitchen herb garden, the tactile process was the most grounding experience of my life.

I realized then that my home shouldn’t just be a place to collapse; it should be an environment that actively helps me recover. This led me to study biophilic home design in Australia—the science behind why greenery changes the quality of our rest.

I founded Jungle Curator because every nurse, teacher, and carer deserves a home that “pours back” into them. As a plant coach in Australia, I don’t just sell greenery. I provide a deeply human service for those who spend their lives caring for others but have forgotten to care for the space they come home to.

WHAT I LEARNED ON THE WELLBEING BREAK

Hands in Soil. Moss Between Your Palms. That’s Where the Recovery Happens.

I didn’t set out to discover a methodology. I just started doing what felt instinctively right when everything else had been stripped away. And what felt right — consistently, reliably, surprisingly — was being outdoors with plants. Making things with my hands. Moving slowly.

“The garden asked nothing of me except my attention. After years of giving everything to everyone, that felt like an extraordinary relief.”

What I was experiencing had a name — biophilic restoration. The research had been there all along: exposure to living greenery reduces cortisol, lowers heart rate, and supports recovery from cognitive fatigue. Hands-on making — tactile, repetitive, absorbing work — is one of the most effective grounding practices we have access to.

I was living the evidence. And when I brought that understanding into my home — when I stopped treating it as a recovery bed and started treating it as a recovery environment — everything shifted.
That’s the heart of every service Jungle Curator offers. Not aesthetics. Not Instagram. The very specific, very real experience of walking through your front door and feeling the day begin to leave you.

WHO IS THIS FOR

If You’ve Been Carrying Too Much for Too Long, This Was Made for You.

Every person Jungle Curator serves is someone whose professional life involves giving deeply to others. This is for you — specifically.

Social Workers & Counsellors

You hold other people’s most difficult moments all day. You’re skilled at building safe spaces for your clients. Your home should be a safe space for you.

Nurses & Healthcare Workers

Shift work, high-stakes decisions, emotional labour that doesn’t clock off when you do. When you walk through your door, you deserve stillness — not more tasks.

Carers & Support Workers

You put others first by instinct, and spending on yourself can feel indulgent. It isn’t. A home that restores you is how a sustainable caring life becomes possible.

Psychologists & Therapists

You understand the research on environment and wellbeing better than most. We help you finally apply it to your own four walls — with the specificity it deserves.

Teachers & Educators

You pour your energy into other people’s growth every day. A calm, green home at the end of the school day isn’t a luxury — it changes the quality of your rest entirely.

Anyone Who Feels Behind

If your Pinterest board is full of green, calm spaces and your actual home doesn’t feel that way — you haven’t failed. You just haven’t had the right support yet. Until now.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE FEELING

What I Experienced in the Garden, Research Had Already Documented.

The experience of feeling calmer, clearer, and more restored around living greenery isn’t placebo. It’s the subject of decades of research in environmental psychology, occupational therapy, and biophilic design.
The benefits are well-documented — and they work in your actual living room, not just in a forest.

Every recommendation Jungle Curator makes is grounded in this science — not just in what looks nice. We think about light, air quality, visual softness, and the particular restorative effect of plants you have to tend. Because the act of caring for something living — when it’s the right plant and the right setup — is itself part of the recovery.

Cortisol Reduction Research – consistently shows that exposure to indoor plants and natural environments reduces measurable stress hormones — even in modest domestic settings.
Cognitive Restoration – Attention Restoration Theory (Kaplan & Kaplan) shows that natural environments allow the directed attention used in caring professions to genuinely recover.
Grounding Through Making – Tactile, hands-on making — like kokedama — activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Slow, absorbing work with your hands is one of the most evidence-backed grounding practices available.
Biophilic Design at Home – Intentionally integrating nature into domestic spaces — the right plants, in the right light, maintained with the right effort — produces measurable improvements in mood, sleep quality, and recovery from work stress.

HOW WE WORK

We Don’t Do Generic. We Never Hand You a List and Walk Away.

Everything is built around your space, your schedule, your energy levels — and the life you’re actually living, not an ideal version of it.

01

We Listen Before We Recommend

Every engagement starts with a conversation. We want to understand how you live — your light, your routine, what you’ve already tried, and what recovery actually looks like for you on a good week. The plant plan follows from that understanding, not from a template.

02

We Work With Your Real Home

Small apartments, low-light rentals, no outdoor space, no time to spare — these are our speciality, not obstacles. We know how to make a restorative plant environment work inside the life you actually have.

03

We Build Confidence, Not Dependence

The goal is for you to walk away knowing exactly how to care for your plants and why they’re in the spots they’re in. We want you to succeed long after our work together is done — not to need us every time something goes wrong.

04

We Go at Your Pace. Always.

There is no urgency in this business. No pressure, no upsell, no scarcity. Restorative spaces are built slowly and intentionally — and we’ll walk alongside you at whatever pace feels manageable for where you are right now.

05

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS DELIVERED

Your final images are delivered via an online gallery, ready to download, print, and keep forever. Prints and albums can also be arranged on request.
